Without formal charges being filed, eventually, the remains of Hailey Dunn should be released to next of kin; her parents, Billie Jean Dunn and Clint Dunn.
This is done at the conclusion of the forensic testing, and not before.
The remains may yield clues as to how Hailey died, and even if she suffered beforehand.
A memorial is to allow the innocent to mourn. There is an entire community that stretches well beyond the geographical boundaries of whom this child touched. There is also an entire community of people, national and international, who insist that the child receive justice. This has been an emotion that has been repeatedly churned by the aggrevating factors presented by the child's mother, more than anyone else.
Billie Dunn has tweaked the noses of investigators, not something terribly bright when you are a suspect, whether or not this particular word has been uttered to main stream media or not. The moment she failed the polygraph, she was a suspect of, perhaps, even more status than the typical target, mother's boyfriend, Shawn Adkins.
People generally do not like have their noses rubbed in it. Scott Peterson is likely not death row cellmate of the year due to his corny, over the top, "glorious marriage" like statements, nor his love of the camera.
Billie Dunn has made him look like an amateur. Now, the memorial is opportunity to photo-op Billie Dunn and rehabilitate her image into grieving mother, rather than image aptly displayed by the affidavit. Send flowers to help dress up Billie Dunn's image? No, thank you.
From the very beginning, Dunn loved the spotlight, with concern, yes, about her alibi building, but even this received some fairly heavy competition of her love of attention, as she self-groomed during her self-proclaimed press conference, from her self-written time line, even while her attorney was left with, "What did she do now?!" moments where she even outmaneuvered him in his thirst for attention.
Posturing
We've seen statements that needed no analysis where Dunn transparently attempts to portray herself as in communication with law enforcement. John Young even told media that he spoke to Curtis Lloyd, of whom he had not. This signals what you should expect.
As the posturing for attention and potential jury manipulation heats up, we hear Billie Dunn supporters clamoring for justice, but only if it does not include the mother's guilt. Anyone who questions the mother's participation in the murder is said to be "hurting" Hailey; that is, an emotional and illogical attempt to manipulate.
As the mother is a suspect, and it may be proven that she participated in killing Hailey, her words about others 'hurting' her 'daughter' will be seen as far more than irony, but more of the contempt that she holds for life.
Young needs to be kept on a short leash and will likely be watched carefully by the Bar Association as his prior comments indicate an instability that became evident when he was arrested for pointing a gun at law enforcement while under the influence. Should he seek to 'kronk' Curtis Lloyd, it will not go well in his own circles and not something that will likely win any influence over a jury. Recall it was his appearance on television that told locals that there was a blog in Maine with a theory that he wanted silenced.
Why would he care?
The Money
Insidious, the love of money, itself, is the source of nutrient for the noxious, but often powerful weed that chokes the life of everything good around it. This case is no different.
'Show your love of Hailey' by...giving money, as if a dead child cares about money. This was similar to the comment about 'if Hailey was alive, she would be upset at this blog' and other such that reveal far more than just being out of touch with reality. There is always a rush to deify the deceased, but when donations are sought behind it, it becomes as egregious as the mother thanking everyone who failed to find Hailey, while not thanking the one who did find her.
Now, money is sought.
"If you love Hailey, press 1 and donate $10.
If you love Hailey more than the others on Facebook, press 2 and donate $50.
If you love Hailey more than those who pressed 2, press 3, donate $100, and send an encouraging 'I love you' ringtone to Billie Dunn."
On and on the goofy emotionalism continues. Those who wish to do something in Hailey's name can pick a charitable organization and give there, so they don't have to worry about money going towards the unseemly, or even the illegal. Hailey can't see the flowers. Hailey doesn't read blogs. Hailey is not hurt by those who doubt Dunn. It is a time for sober-minded logic. There are scholarships that make differences in kids' lives. There are those who feed hungry children. There are those who help those who are incapable of helping themselves.
These are worthy memorials, not flowers for the Young-Dunn Photo Ops unless you want to hear him say "see how many people support Billie, uh, I mean, Hailey."
I don't want to hear it. Send your money to those who will help others in need.
The ones who loved Hailey were those who's feet grew weary from trekking through the ugly fields looking for her. They loved her.
Even now, Dunn takes shots at law enforcement for not finding her sooner. Perhaps if she had told them where to look Hailey would have been found on the night Dunn failed the polygraph. You know the polygraphed: the one she called the devil, showing just how to get Dunn to react: Call her a liar and watch her explode in anger.
Plea Bargain
Should Adkins' attorney seek to save his life, the revelations must match the evidence, with nothing held back. We do not know, of yet, what, if any has taken place, but it does not take much imagination to consider that Adkins' family would want him to come clean, and even send an attorney to begin to broker a deal, that is, if a deal can even be brokered.
Fasten your seatbelts.
Billie Dunn responded to this rumor remarking that her daughter was not given a deal. This, again, is an example of how she projects her own abdicating guilt upon others. She posted against "pedophiles" and "child murderers" introducing the topic of sexual assault to a case in which there has been no evidence of sexual assault.
Yet, it wasn't the first time Dunn heard this.
In January of 2011, Connie Jones, Hailey's grandmother, told the Nancy Grace Show that she thought Adkins raped her grandchild, and that the mother did nothing about it.
The talking heads appears surprised that Dunn had no reaction so she was finally asked to respond but, on the fly, appearing like a deer in the headlights caught, said, "this is the first I'm hearing of it. How come nobody told me?"
The talking heads were shocked that Dunn was not shocked.
Surprise, surprise.
Dunn gave her awareness of guilt of a sexual assault in her post calling for Adkins to kill himself for pedophilia and murder even as Hailey's remains were found in an...
ugly field...
in...
Scurry County.
Surprise, surprise, again.
That Hailey may have been a victim of a sexual assault surprises no one, including Dunn. She was not surprised when Hailey's grandmother pointed it out, nor was she caught off guard in her own recent post, begging the question of just how she knew Shawn Adkins was into pedophilia. No surprise here, given the magnitude of their obsession with sexual violence against children in capable of self protection, adults and defenseless animals.
It may be that when the final story is told, Connie Jones' story is close, but falls short in the reality of the brutal nature of the killing of a 13 year old.
Even those who see the deception from Dunn from the very beginning, struggle to stomach anything worse than "well, maybe they OD'd her..." hoping for a peaceful death.
Hailey will have a voice, and will speak:
Through forensic science.
Through the prosecutors.
Through the portrayal of all the circumstantial evidence which will show the atmosphere that Hailey was subjected to, groomed within, and finally, died within.
Yes, her mother saw her. She only "looked like she was sleeping." This is how we describe dead bodies.
"I didn't touch her."
No, we don't generally like to touch lifeless bodies. Now she wants anyone who questions her guilt to be guilty of 'hurting' Hailey. In deed.
Her attorney has been unsuccessful muzzling her and I expect this will continue right on to a trial. Should prosecutors offer anything in order to save her life, my guess is that Dunn will not go for it. For the lawyers, there is not much publicity in plea bargains, but there is a whole lot in a lengthy, emotional, drawn out trial.
In any case, short or long, it will be a circus.
I expect that in any and all possibilities:
Dunn and Young compete for Front and Center.
Media will catch on and begin asking questions, so when Young says he spoke to Mr. Lloyd, media will ask, "Really? Ok, so what day did you speak to him?", and when Billie Dunn goes from "the FBI is in a conspiracy" to, "I have my own FBI guy", media will ask, "What is the agent's name, Ms. Dunn?"
Officials are not releasing information to the suspects. It is something not done until discovery.
The length of time of forensic testing should give those of us hoping for justice considerable optimism.
I think the remains have spoken. I think they may have told a story, already, to those who are carefully listening, and may have given an indication of what Hailey experienced.
I think the remains have spoken.
