Hailey Dunn Case: Inquisitive Grand Jury Three: Shawn Adkins

Posted on 16:37 by Unknown
Shawn Adkins was the early focus in the investigation, though this would not last.

In a series of increasingly desperate appearances on the Nancy Grace Show, it was Billie Dunn, herself, who was left with picking up the pieces and attempting to spin, control, and eventually, 'correct' information that the public would hear, so much so, that she even held her own press conference, with her own time line.

A lightning rod for trouble, she was either unwilling or incapable of keeping quiet, and, like most chronic liars, grew increasingly hostile when not believed.

Billie Jean Dunn became the focus for a public who wanted to know where Hailey was, and what happened to her.

Dunn angered the public with her deceptive stories and each attempt to cover the holes in her story meant slight changes, adjustments, and back peddling which, instead of endearing herself to the public, only served to increase its anger and reveal more information.

Somewhere along the time period in which Billie Dunn took front and center, Shawn Adkins was religated to the background.

Perhaps he needs to thank Dunn.

Yet it was Shawn Adkins who, initially, was suspected, with Billie Dunn able to take the role of battered woman, under the control of the masked scary Adkins. Even police, early on, offered Dunn a 'shoulder to cry on', safe haven from the monster (he hated being portrayed as a monster), but it went quickly to suspicion:

Why won't she stay away from him?
Why is she sneaking off with him?

Eventually...

Why does she need to lie for him?

And finally...

She was arrested for him.

This eventually led to the public's belief that Billie Dunn was more than just a little involved in the disappearance of Hailey Dunn, but was eternally linked, by guilt, to Shawn Adkins, and would have to be faced down with the scariest of issues:

What if Shawn Adkins talks?

Shawn Adkins was initially named a "Suspect" in the case, only to later have another law enforcement agency call Dunn and Adkins "Persons of Interest."  One thing about this case that was tough for journalists:  most editors will not allow them to use information from other organizations, so unless a particular law enforcement officer said "it", "it" could not be used.  Some sought comments from the Colorado City police, others from Texas Rangers, and still some from FBI.  This led to a disjointed picture, which may have, inevitably, led people to read the analysis posted here, not only for analysis, but for a cohesive picture of what took place.

Behavior

Adkins' behavior, from the first moments, drew suspicion to him.  When spoken to, he initially said that the police could view his cell phone, but then went on to delete things in law enforcement presence.  Strange behavior during the critical time period of a missing child case is more than just a coincidence, especially when a Grand Jury gets to hear the case in its entirety.  What did he have to hide?

This will, eventually, lead to the evidence of the massive and extreme number of deviant images in the possession or accessibility of both Adkins and Billie Dunn.

Creep Factor

The Grand Jurors will be impacted by the pornography.  How could they not?  What will they see?

a.  Vile material
b.  violent material
c.  participation by Dunn

This will cause them to fret.  They will be impacted and wonder at what environment this poor 13 year old child was subjected to.  It is not something that Dunn's attorney will enjoy dealing with and expect him to blame Adkins, but the problem with this is Billie Dunn's own willful appearance in the home made porn:

Did she 'take the lead' in the home made porn as she has taken the lead since reporting Hailey missing? If so, this will leave the Grand Jury with a distinct impression of Billie Dunn's leadership in the case, and may actually take some of heat off of Dunn.

When asked about his whereabouts that morning, he was seen as unprepared in his lie.

He was fired from his job.
He got into a fight with his supervisor.
He had a new job lined up.
He just wanted a soda.
He dropped off his Michael Myers coveralls.

The changing story was indicative of lying:  a non-rehearsed part of their story.  This is something Grand Jurors will be impacted with.

Cell phone pings and location

Grand Jurors will be able to hear that Adkins not only went in a strange and suspicious pattern that morning, but his cell phone ping will place him squarely at the location of the remains.
